Traffic Safety Notice: 1/31/2008

In response to citizen requests and officer initiation, 78 selective traffic enforcement details were recently conducted during the period from January 20th through January 29th. Police Officers issued violating motorists 101 traffic citations or written warnings across the Township. Two sites in particular were noted. On the 28th, the ENRADD unit [an electronic device used to determine speed] was deployed the morning in the 600 block of Bustleton Pike. Officers issued 17 citations. The high speed identified during the detail was 64 mph on this posted 35 mph road. The ENRADD was also deployed on Briarwood Dr from 7:40 until 8:40am in direct response to complaints by a resident of excessive speeding. There were a total of 17 vehicles that were timed and the assigned officer issued 2 citations.

The Police Department wishes to remind all motorists traveling through Northampton Township to please be sure to buckle up, drive courteously and attentively and to obey the Vehicle Code. In 2007 our Police Officers conducted 1,654 selective enforcement details. Since traffic safety is an extremely important issue to the Police Department and has been expressed as such by our community, Vehicle Code compliance and out anti-DUI program has continued as an enforcement focus in 2008.

HOW TO REPORT A TRAFFIC SAFETY CONCERN OR REQUEST A TRAFFIC REVIEW FOR YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD:

1. Determine what your traffic concern may be and if it is an emergency.

2. IF AN EMERGENCY, IMMEDIATELY CALL THE POLICE DEPARTMENT AT 215-357-8700 OR (BASED ON THE SITUATION) DIAL 9-1-1

3. Sit down and write out your concerns in a legible manner and decide if you just need to contact the Emergency Communications Center (located in Doylestown) by calling 215-357-8700 and requesting a Police Officer stop by your home or other location within the Township boundaries, or if you should send a letter to the Township Administration Building.

4. IF YOU WILL BE SENDING A LETTER TO THE TOWNSHIP MANAGER: Complete the attached questionnaire and submit it.

5. You may mail the questionnaire and any supporting documents to the attention of Township Manager Robert M. Pellegrino, Northampton Township, 55 Township Road, Richboro, PA 18954 or you may drop off the material in person or fax the material to 215-357-1251 to the attention of the Township Manager.
