Northampton Township Police Department Announces Anti-DUI/Liquor laws Patrol Program for 2008 to Begin: The Northampton Township Police Department wishes to announce that we have begun our Anti-DUI/Liquor Laws Program for 2008. The purpose of this program is to aggressively move to reduce the number of motorists operating while DUI and reduce the number of juveniles consuming intoxicants in the Township. We believe that this action will translate into a reduction in the number of traffic crashes involving a DUI. The program will begin in mid-April and continue through to October and will include personnel from all elements of the Police Department. In preparing for this program data for applicable arrests and crashes between January 1, 2006 and January 27, 2008 were analyzed to determine those locations that needed attention. The Police Officers will use targeted enforcement details that will include speed enforcement, "Cops in Shops" underage details, and possible checkpoints. Additionally, Police Officers may be assigned to check know hangouts for underage liquor law violations. We feel that theses tactics will only enhance our overall Traffic Safety / anti-DUI / Liquor Laws initiative by more aggressively confront DUI and Liquor Law violations by minors. POLICE DEPARTMENT CRIMES AND ARREST STATISTICS: We wish to present our residents with a 70-month [January 1, 2002 through October 31, 2007] overview of reported crimes and arrests made by the police department. Additionally, in response to traffic safety concerns our officers issued 22,811 traffic violations [citations and written warnings] reports during the tracked period. Although not every one of the 81,619 incident reports was to report a crime; our police officers did investigate a number of crimes. Those investigations resulted in 2,936 arrest reports. Project Blue Light Project Blue Light is a nationwide recognition of those Police Officers who have died in the line of duty. It began in 1988 in Philadelphia when Dolly Craig wrote a letter to COPS (Concerns for Police Survivors) stating that she would be honoring her late son-in-law, Philadelphia Police Officer Danny Gleason, during the holiday season by placing a blue light in her window. We would like to ask each of you to please consider placing a blue light in your window during the holiday season to show your support for your police officers.
