Effective May 1, 2012, household refuse, recycling, and one bulk item will be collected once per week on the same day of the week. Each household may put out up to 12 bags or cans of household refuse per collection day. We start trash collection at 6am, so it is better to get your trash to the curb the night before, but no earlier than 6pm. Use plastic or metal trash cans or plastic trash bags. All trash should be bagged. Please do not put out trash in paper bags, cardboard boxes, or containers smaller than 20 gallons. THESE CAUSE LITTER!

Single stream recycling is here!
Recycling is collected the same day as household refuse. If you did not receive a green recycling container, please call the Township at 215-357-6800 or a container can be picked up at the Public Works Building, 65 Township Road between 7 A.M. and 3 P.M.
What is single-stream recycling? Single-stream recycling allows residents to place all recyclables: cans, bottles and plastics together with newspapers, cardboard, etc. in one container. There is no need to seperate items since the "single-stream" recycling process used allows all recyclables to be mixed together.
Mixed Paper and CardboardCan be placed loose in the recycle bin and includes materials such as newspaper, inserts, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, envelopes, file folders, office white, colored and computer paper (staples and paper clips OK), cereal, tissue, gift boxes, etc. (remove liners) paper bags, phone books, wrapping paper (remove metallic paper, bows, etc.). Corrugated cardboard boxes that fit in the bin. Cardboard boxes that are too big for your recycle bin must be flattened and tied, and placed next to your recycling container for pickup.
MetalAluminum cans (beer and soda) aluminum foil and foil plates, etc. metal lids, metal food cans (tin/steel).
GlassGlass bottles and jars (food and drink only). PLEASE RINSE!
Plastic ContainersBottles and containers labeled #1 through #7 (soda, water, milk, juice, liquor, shampoo, detergent, condiments, salad dressing, yogurt, margarine).
Single-stream recycling will be collected by a compaction truck. Only recyclables will be on this truck, it cannot collect non-recyclable items.
Unacceptable Materials for RecyclingCeramics, dishes, coffee cups, drinking glasses, glass ovenware, pyrex, visionware, window glass, mirrors, light bulbs, plastics without #1-#7 labeling, plastic bags, styrofoam packaging, bubble wrap, tissue or paper towels, metallic or coated paper, waxed boxes, books or toys.
One bulk item will be picked up the same day as household refuse and recycling. This item can include furniture (1 mattress and 1 box spring set are considered one bulk item), applicances (without Freon), and large auto parts. 10 rolls of carpet/padding are considered one bulk item. Carpet/padding must be cut to 3 food widths, rolled and tied or taped.
Tree limbs or tree trunks larger than 3 inches in diameter and cut to 36 inches in length are considered bulk items.
Windows, mirrors, glass panels, etc., must be taped in a criss-cross pattern to prevent breakage.
Bulk Items containing Freon (CFC's)Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers contain Freon, which is considered hazardous; you must call us so that we can schedule a pick up date, 1-800-432-1616. There is NO extra charge for this service.
Unlimited yard waste will be collected and taken to a composting facility the day after your trash and recycling day. You can use biodegradable, 30-gallon paper bags or trash containers that do not weigh more than 50 pounds when full. Yard waste in plastic bags will not be collected during this period.
Tree branches and shrubbery must be no more than 36 inches long and less than 3 inches in diameter. They must be bundled and tied or put in biodegradable bags. Branches or shrubbery cannot extend over the top of the can or bag.
December 16 To March 31You may set out a maximum of five containers of yard waste with your regular household trash. This yard waste is not composted, so it does not have to be put into biodegradable bags.
Notice: If you desire to recycle yard waste post-season (December 16-March 31), you may take your yard waste to the Tullytown Resource Recovery Facility (800) 869-5566, weekdays 7:00am-4:00pm and Saturdays 7:00am-11:00am, located at 200 Bordentown Road, Tullytown, PA 19007. There is a fee to bring material to the compost facility.

NOTE: Most grocery stores and hardware stores sell the biodegradable bags during the yard waste season.
Latex paint: Let the paint dry in the can. Adding kitty litter or a commercial drying agent will speed up the drying process. When paint is dry, replace lid and double bag the can before putting it in the trash. Leaking paint will damage our trucks and stain your street.
Oil based paint is hazardous waste. Call Bucks County Planning Commission (215) 345-3400 for drop off locations and dates.
Car batteries, gasoline, motor oil, pesticides, oil-based paints and other toxic and hazardous materials do not belong in the trash! Call Bucks County's Household Waste Hotline at 1-800-345-3400 for information on disposing of these materials. Many auto stores accept used motor oil and car batteries.
We do not pick up concrete, roofing and other home remodeling debris. You will need to make special arrangements with J.P. Mascaro or another waste hauler to remove this debris.
Holidays: New Year's Day (January 1), Memorial Day, Independence Day (July 4), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day (December 25).
If scheduled collection day is a Holiday then collection will occur the next day. This will affect all areas of the Township for the rest of the week. Example: Monday, Memorial Day, Monday collection will occur Tuesday, Tuesday collection on Wednesday, Wednesday collection on Thursday, and Thursday collection on Friday (for that week only).

Your efforts to recycle bottles, cans and plastic have been fantastic. Every ton of solid waste that gets recycled saves large dumping fees and helps provide raw materials to businesses who use them in manufacturing. Thank you for helping us do the right thing for the taxpayers, local manufacturers and the environment!
