Northampton Township Parks & Recreation Announces the PRPS 2008 Service Group Award

The Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS) presented the Northampton Township Lions Club the PRPS 2008 Service Group Award during the Award Ceremony at the 61st Annual PRPS State Conference held this year at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, PA. Lions Club President, Don Austin, was present to receive the award. 2008 also marks the Northampton Township Lions Club’s Golden Anniversary. The Lions Club was nominated by Northampton Township Parks & Recreation as a way to recognize their endless volunteer efforts. “Recipients of this demonstrated an ongoing commitment to some facet of the field of recreation and parks,” according to Susan Lohoefer, Chairperson of the PRPS Recognition and Awards Committee.

The Lions Clubs, founded in 1917, are an international network of 1.3 million men and women in various countries and geographic areas, who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Northampton Township Parks & Recreation has relied on the support of the Northampton Township Lions Club at many events and activities. “The Northampton Township Lions Club has continually given back to the people of Northampton Township, as well as, charities, both local and nationwide,” stated Betty Satterley, Special Events Coordinator. “Their alliance with Parks and Recreation continually complements out events and programs while fostering their own charitable work and spirit of community in the truest sense.”

PRPS is the principal professional organization promoting quality recreation and park opportunities for all citizens of the Commonwealth through education, training, technical assistance and other support to local, county, state, and national recreation and park providers. The Society is a non-profit membership association with more than 1,800 members statewide with headquarters in State College, PA.
