"In 1776,a law was enacted requiring that a school be located in each town."

"In 1790, a law was passed for the education of the poor without a fee."

"Most boys attended the winter session, since they were better able to struggle through the snow, then worked in the fields during the summer. The younger children and older girls attended school in the summer, helping with food preserving at home in the fall, and sewing and weaving in the winter."

"Property was purchased in Richboro in 1860 at the present site of the garage of Davis Pontiac on Second Street Pike, and a one room elementary school was erected. Two years later the roof was raised to make the school into a two story building. In 1869, a High School was begun in that building. It was a two-year high school for many years, until the new stone High School building was erected in 1913 up the road north of Almshouse Road. When the High School moved out of its original home, the building was sold to the fire company, but the second floor continued to be used by the elementary grades for many years."
