U.S. Army Nike Base

     "After World War II, it was discovered that Russia had long range bombers that our government felt were capable of reaching our east coast cities. Because Philadelphia had several oil refineries, it was decided to erect protective army Nike bases around the city. Richboro was chosen to have one of the several facilities built in 1955. The major installation was built on Twining Ford Road, while the dining facilities were erected on Newtown Road, Richboro. The missle launching area was between the two facilities."
