Northampton Farmers Club

"Farmers as far back as the mid 1700's got together to help solve farming problems. It was noted in the Pennsylvania Gazette of August 20, 1788, the account of two farmers of our area, James Vaux and John Jacobs, who traveled to New York. They were looking for information on a new yellow-bearded wheat strain that would survive the larva of the Hessian Fly. Their own wheat crops were being ruined by the larva that ate the lower section of the wheat stalks, causing them to fall over and die. They were looking for help and information."
