In understanding the revenue sources of the Township. It is important to realize that there are different types of taxes being levied by different governing bodies. For example, real estate property taxes are a major source of revenue for the Township of Northampton, as well as the County of Bucks and the local school district - Council Rock. Your real estate tax dollar amount is based on the millage rate and the assessed value of your property. In 2002, a total millage rate of 403.90 mills was levied upon every property owner In Northampton Township - a "mill" being defined as one-tenth of one cent, or one-thousandth of a dollar. The typical assessed home value in the Township is around $10,000. Consequently, the typical homeowner will pay approximately $4,039.00 in 2002 real estate tax (i. e., .4039 x $10,000). Of this amount $3,262.50 goes to Council Rock schools; $620 to Bucks County; and $156.50.00 to the Township. Remember; your exact property tax bill will vary depending on the assessed value of your property. In addition to the above, residents in the Township are required to pay a $10 per year Per Capita Tax, which is shared equally with the Council Rock School District. Plus, the school district also levies a $10 Occupational Privilege Tax and a $5 Personal Tax. Further, residents should also be aware of the school district-imposed Occupation Tax. Calculated on a millage basis, the tax rate (400 mills or 0.4) is applied to the assessed value of one's occupation to determine the tax liability.
