CITIZEN OF THE MONTH

NORTHAMPTON
PROCLAMATION

        WHEREAS, The Citizen of the Month Award was established by the Board of Supervisors on January 2, 2001, to acknowledge an outstanding Northampton Township resident; and

WHEREAS, ILISSA is a resident of Holland where she resides with her family and is a graduate of Council Rock High School and West Chester University and is presently teaching fourth grade in Delaware County, and

WHEREAS, Ilissa is a compassionate and caring individual with a love for teaching, and this past summer decided to volunteer a month of her time and teaching skills in a truly humanitarian effort to assist the children in areas affected by the recent Tsunami, and

WHEREAS, Ilissa set out on her own to travel to the Thaimuang District in Southern Thailand where she taught English at an orphanage and to the fourth, fifth and sixth graders of the village. She lived in poor conditions with a host family experiencing cultural differences and dealing with many heart wrenching situations, but was genuinely rewarded by her experiences. She hopes to volunteer her teaching services again, and to help raise funds to much needed medicines and school supplies for these children.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors and the citizens of Northampton Township hereby recognize and honor ILISSA GORDON as "DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN".
